This Christmas, you can surprise the work-from-home people in your life with fantastic gifts they’ll actually use—gifts that will probably make them say “I’ve been needing/wanting this! How did you know?”
People who work from home—Freelancers, solopreneurs, authors, bloggers, etc.—have specific needs and problems that other business people don’t have. By giving them a gift from this list, you’ll show that you support their job of choice and understand their needs. And you’ll probably make their day with such a thoughtful, truly helpful gift.
Get ready to make a shopping list.
Gifts to Make the Work Day Nicer
1. New Year Planning Kit
Assemble a gift basket full of all the goodies they will need to plan for a new year of business.
- Marker board with magnets & markers
- Sticky notes
- Bulletin board
- New pens & pencils
- Printer paper
- Ink cartridges
When you’re the only one in the office, things get a little too quiet. With some nice speakers, your friends will enjoy better sound quality than they would playing music straight from their computer or phone. And as a work-from-home person myself, I know that makes a big difference in the work day.
3. Laptop Bag
We like to work outside of the house every so often, and sturdy laptop bags help us easily take our work with us.
Gifts for Better Health
Sore backs and necks and stiff shoulders seem to come with the job. A gift card for a massage might be their favorite gift of the year!
2. Exercise ball
Some people like to use these as desk chairs periodically throughout the day. This can help desk workers have better posture and engage their core muscles. And the ball can be used for exercise after work too.
3. Water cup with fruit infuser
Drinking enough water throughout the day keeps us alert and helps us think clearly—tasks that are harder when you don’t have coworkers to talk to or a boss keeping watch.
This 32-ounce water bottle lets your friend infuse fruit into the water for a fresh, tasty drink that keeps him hydrated.
4. Exercise class/ subscription
After a long day of sitting, we need some physical activity and time to stretch our stiff muscles. But sometimes we need a like-minded community or some accountability or even a little push to help us get started. . . and to keep doing it.
A gift card to a local gym or exercise class may help your friend take that step. You could also gift them a free year of an online fitness membership, such as The Balanced Life Sisterhood—a Pilates membership group for women.
Gifts They Already Love and Use
Anyone who works from home is paying for some kind of software or service. Surprise them by taking care of the fee for a few months or even the next year!
- Invoicing service (Harvest, Quickbooks Online, etc.)
- Design software (Photoshop, Canva, Adobe software, etc.)
- Proofreading/Editing software (Hemingway Editor, Grammarly, etc.)
- Organization service (Dropbox, Evernote, Asana, etc.)
- Email Marketing service (Mailchimp, ConvertKit, etc.)
There are plenty of other services, tools, and products we use as we work from the home office. Your friend would love a gift card she could put to good use this upcoming work year.
Ideas include gift cards for:
- Spotify (or other favorite streaming service)
- App Store
- Starbucks (or other favorite coffee shop with wi-fi)
- Staples/Office Depot
It’s rare to find a solopreneur or freelancer who doesn’t drink coffee—and lots of it. Any kind of coffee gift would be much appreciated.
Here’s a few ideas:
- Coffee bean delivery subscription (Yes, that’s a thing!)
- Awesome coffee mug
- Coffee gift card
- Mug warmer to keep their drinks warm during all those long calls with clients (Such a good idea!)
